{"id":3010,"date":"2019-10-24T09:54:35","date_gmt":"2019-10-24T09:54:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/new.ruudweber.com\/?page_id=3010"},"modified":"2019-11-05T08:37:36","modified_gmt":"2019-11-05T08:37:36","slug":"snowy-white","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/ruudweber.com\/en\/snowy-white\/","title":{"rendered":"Snowy White"},"content":{"rendered":"<!-- wp:paragraph -->\r\n<p>Ruud Weber started working with Snowy White in 2009 and they produced two albums (In our time of Livings &amp; In our time of living Live) and a live DVD (Snowy White &amp; freinds After Paradise) with several songs written by himself.<\/p>\r\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\r\n\r\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\r\n<p>Website:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.snowywhite.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">www.snowywhite.com<\/a><\/p>\r\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\r\n\r\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\r\n<p>(BIO)<\/p>\r\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\r\n\r\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\r\n<p>Snowy White\u00a0is one of a handful of classic blues-orientated British electric guitar players &#8211; musicians whose sound, technique and style has echoed the originality of the blues with the excitement of contemporary rock.<\/p>\r\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\r\n\r\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\r\n<p>At the age of eleven he first heard the urban blues sound that had been emanating from the United States, people such as\u00a0BB King, Buddy Guy, Otis Rush\u00a0and\u00a0Albert King, and was immediately aware that this was the music that he wanted to incorporate in his playing. He has developed his own style of \u2018English \u2018 blues, a combination of clear, clean blues phrases and harder-edged riffs that are a recognisable feature of his very personal songs.<\/p>\r\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\r\n\r\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\r\n<p>Arriving in\u00a0London\u00a0in the early seventies with the classic \u2018few pennies in his pocket\u2019 he gradually made a name for himself among the local musicians and became respected as a tasteful player and an easy guy to get along with.<\/p>\r\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\r\n\r\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\r\n<p>In 1974\u00a0he toured the east coast of America, getting as far south as New Orleans and discovering that he thoroughly enjoyed being \u2018on the road\u2019. He had by then become friendly with the now legendary English blues guitarist\u00a0Peter Green\u00a0and they spent a lot of time jamming together.<\/p>\r\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\r\n\r\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\r\n<p>During the mid-seventies\u00a0Snowy\u00a0played on various sessions, developed his skills in the studio environment, and started writing his own material.<\/p>\r\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\r\n\r\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\r\n<p>In the Autumn of\u00a01976\u00a0he was invited to tour America and Europe with the\u00a0Pink Floyd\u00a0as their first augmenting musician, a gig which took up most of his time throughout\u00a01977.<\/p>\r\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\r\n\r\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\r\n<p>In\u00a01978\u00a0the band\u2019s keyboard player\u00a0Rick Wright\u00a0asked him to play guitar on his solo album, entitled\u00a0&#8216;Wet Dream,&#8217;\u00a0which he recorded in the South of France.<\/p>\r\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\r\n\r\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\r\n<p>In\u00a01979\u00a0Peter Green decided to head for the studio once more and invited Snowy along to jam. The result was the album entitled\u2018In the Skies\u2019, now something of a collectors item.<\/p>\r\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\r\n\r\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\r\n<p>He was then asked by the Pink Floyd to go to America to rehearse their new show entitled \u2018The Wall\u2019, and, at the same time, the rock band\u00a0Thin Lizzy\u00a0invited him to become a full-time member. So after the completion of the Floyds\u2019 US dates he returned to England and went straight into the studio to record his first Thin Lizzy album &#8216;Chinatown&#8217;.\u00a0This album includes some songs co-written by Snowy, notably the title track. Two and a half years of world tours and recording with the band followed, including the making of Snowy\u2019s second album with them, entitled\u00a0\u2018Renegade\u2019. Snowy again co-wrote some of the songs and the title track. After this long period of work he decided that it was time to do his own thing and quit the band in 1982.<\/p>\r\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\r\n\r\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\r\n<p>In the following twelve months he got together with musicians that he had known and admired for a long time &#8211; drummer\/percussionist\u00a0Richard Bailey, keyboard player\u00a0Godfrey Wang, and his good friend for many years, bassist and producerKuma Harada. Together they came up with Snowy\u2019s first solo album,\u00a0\u2018White Flames.\u2019\u00a0A single, the timeless\u00a0\u2018Bird of Paradise&#8217;,written by Snowy, which was taken from the album, became an international hit.<\/p>\r\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\r\n\r\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\r\n<p>However, the idea of becoming a \u2018singles\u2019 artiste, with the consequent concern about where the next hit record was coming from, did not appeal to him, and he took a break to rethink his musical direction. During that time he put together a gigging blues band, &#8216;The Blues Agency&#8217;, with drummer\u00a0Jeff Allen, his old friend Kuma on bass, and, as he wanted to concentrate only on playing the guitar, singer and harp player\u00a0Graham Bell. Between 1986 and 1989 the band played in the UK and Europe, and recorded two albums,\u00a0\u2018Change my Life\u2019, followed by \u2018Open for Business\u2019 (which was released in Europe as\u00a0\u2018Blues on Me\u2019.)<\/p>\r\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\r\n\r\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\r\n<p>In June\u00a01990 Roger Waters, having split from the Pink Floyd, asked Snowy to perform with him on the spectacular \u2018The Wall\u2019 show in Berlin.<\/p>\r\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\r\n\r\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\r\n<p>In\u00a01991\u00a0Waters again called upon Snowy, this time to play at the \u2018Guitar Legends\u2019 concert in Seville as part of Expo.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\r\n\r\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\r\n<p>After this concert Snowy decided that it was time that he returned to the mainstream of things so he set about putting down songs that he had been writing during the previous few years. The result was the album entitled\u00a0\u2018Highway to the Sun\u2019. Recorded in the Summer of\u00a01993\u00a0it contained ten original songs plus a version of Peter Green\u2019s \u2018I loved another Woman\u2019, a long-time favourite of Snowy\u2019s. The album also has guest appearances by\u00a0Chris Rea\u00a0( slide guitar on the title track),\u00a0David Gilmour\u00a0and\u00a0Gary Moore. It also introduced two new brilliant Dutch-Indonesian musicians,\u00a0Juan van Emmerloot\u00a0(drums\/percussion) and\u00a0Walter Latupeirissa(bass and rhythm guitar). Kuma Harada also played bass and rhythm.\u00a0John \u2018Rabbit\u2019 Bundrick\u00a0featured on keyboards. The video of the title track has Chris Rea guesting on slide.<\/p>\r\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\r\n\r\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\r\n<p>\u2018Bird of Paradise\u2019\u00a0then came back into the picture when KLM airlines decided to use it on their new TV advertising campaign, resulting in the single reentering the charts in Europe and the compilation album \u2018Birds of Paradise\u2019 doing extremely good business for most of 1994.<\/p>\r\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\r\n\r\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\r\n<p>Snowy\u2019s next album project was released on the UK record label RPM. Entitled\u00a0\u2018Gold Top\u2019, after his well-known Gibson Les Paul \u2018Goldtop Standard\u2019 guitar, it features material in which Snowy has been involved from as far back as\u00a01974\u00a0right up to\u00a01996. This album includes two tracks from Thin Lizzy, jams from the Peter Green \u2018In the Skies\u2019 session (with Peter on 2nd guitar), Al Stewart live in Philadelphia (1974), and the only complete version of the Pink Floyd song \u2018Pigs on the Wing\u2019, featuring Snowy\u2019s original guitar solo (never before released), as well as some live Snowy White blues and some previously unreleased material. Dave Gilmour and Chris Rea also appear on tracks taken from his recent \u2018Highway to the Sun\u2019 CD. The album closes with the hit single \u2018Bird of Paradise\u2019<\/p>\r\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\r\n\r\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\r\n<p>Snowy then recorded three albums with his White Flames band, \u201cNo Faith Required&#8217; in\u00a01996, \u2018Little Wing\u2019 in\u00a01998\u00a0and\u00a0&#8216;Keep Out:We Are Toxic\u2019\u00a0in\u00a01999.<\/p>\r\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\r\n\r\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\r\n<p>Another compilation, entitled \u2018Pure Gold &#8211; The Solo Years\u2019\u00a0was also released in 1999.<\/p>\r\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\r\n\r\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\r\n<p>Also in this year Snowy joined Roger Waters for his bands&#8217; \u2018In The Flesh\u2019 US tour, which was so successful that, in the Summer of2000, Roger again toured the States, this time recording a live album and making a film of the show<\/p>\r\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\r\n\r\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\r\n<p>Early in 2000 \u2018Little Wing\u2019 was released in the States under the title \u2018Melting\u2019, and in July of that year Snowy White &amp; the White Flames played a showcase gig at BB King\u2019s Blues Bar off Times Square in New York.<\/p>\r\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\r\n\r\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\r\n<p>A final White Flames album (as a three-piece), entitled &#8216;Restless,&#8217; was released in May\u00a02002. Tracks include &#8216;Blues is the Road&#8217;, &#8216;Restless&#8217;, &#8216;The Time Has Come&#8217;, &#8216;Soldier of Fortune&#8217;, &#8216;Softly&#8217;, &#8216;It&#8217;s Your Life&#8217;, &#8216;New Day&#8230;Maybe,&#8217; \u2018You Can&#8217;t Break My Heart\u2019 and &#8216;Too Far Away&#8217;.<\/p>\r\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\r\n\r\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\r\n<p>From February to July\u00a02002\u00a0Snowy toured the world with Roger Waters.<\/p>\r\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\r\n\r\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\r\n<p>Spring 2005 saw the release of a new\u00a0White Flames\u00a0cd, entitled &#8220;The Way It Is&#8221;, with a basic four-piece outfit consisting of Richard Bailey (drums\/percussion), Walter Latupeirissa (bass) and Max Middleton (keyboards). Guest musicians include Juan van Emmerloot on drums\/percussion, Kuma Harada on bass guitar,\u00a0James Lascelles\u00a0on hammond,\u00a0Dawn Knight\u00a0on backing vocals and\u00a0Ray Carless\u00a0on saxophone.Track listing: No Stranger to the Blues, Bird of Paradise, Black Magic Woman, What I&#8217;m Searching For, Angel Inside You (parts one and two), Falling,The Way It Is, A Piece of Your Love, This Time of My Life, Easy, Sweet Bluesmaker.<\/p>\r\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\r\n\r\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\r\n<p>A DVD, &#8216;The Way It Is &#8211; Live&#8217;, filmed in Vilnius, Lithuania, was released in 2005<\/p>\r\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\r\n\r\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\r\n<p>From April to October\u00a02006\u00a0Snowy toured Europe and America with Roger Waters.<\/p>\r\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\r\n\r\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\r\n<p>The Autumn of\u00a02006\u00a0saw The White Flames Band performing in the UK and Europe.<\/p>\r\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\r\n\r\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\r\n<p>From January to July\u00a02007\u00a0Snowy toured Australia, New Zealand, South America, China, India, Europe and North America\/Canada with Roger Waters.<\/p>\r\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\r\n\r\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\r\n<p>A live album from the White Flames Band, entitled &#8216;Liveflames,&#8217; was released in October 2007.<\/p>\r\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\r\n\r\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\r\n<p>April to June\u00a02008\u00a0Snowy toured again with Roger Waters, after which he started work on a new White Flames Band album entitled &#8216;Realistic&#8217;, with Juan van Emmerloot, Walter Latupeirissa, and\u00a0Max Middleton. The recording of this album continued through 2009 and into 2010.<\/p>\r\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\r\n\r\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\r\n<p>In the Autumn of\u00a02008\u00a0Snowy formed\u00a0The Snowy White Blues Project, with\u00a0Matt Taylor\u00a0(guitar\/vocals),\u00a0Ruud Weber Jnr\u00a0(bass guitar\/vocals), and Juan van Emmerloot (drums), recording a blues-orientated album, &#8216;In Our Time of Living.&#8217; During\u00a02009\/10\u00a0the band were gigging throughout Europe. They released a live album &#8216;In Our Time&#8230;Live&#8217; in 2010.<\/p>\r\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\r\n\r\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\r\n<p>In the Summer of\u00a02010\u00a0Snowy completed the recording of &#8216;Realistic&#8217;, which was released in early\u00a02011.<\/p>\r\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\r\n\r\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\r\n<p>Autumn\u00a02010\u00a0saw Snowy touring the USA, Canada and Mexico with Roger Water&#8217;s &#8216;The Wall&#8217; show, which then continued throughout Europe in the first half of 2011 and returned to the USA in\u00a02012<\/p>\r\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\r\n\r\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\r\n<p>In between these tours he found time to record a live DVD, &#8216;After Paradise&#8217;, featuring many of the musicians that have played with him over his long career. Tracks included are: I&#8217;m Getting Ready, Midnight Blues, I&#8217;ll Be Moving On, Red Wine Blues, Judgement Day, Blue To The Bone, Slabo Day, Tears In My Eyes, Lucky Star, Bird Of Paradise, The Journey (Parts1 and 2), Falling, On The Edge Of Something, Ongoing&#8230;, Can&#8217;t Get Enough Of The Blues, At The Crossroads.
